What is a Content Management System? |
A Content Management System (CMS) is a software system used for content management. Content management systems are deployed primarily for interactive use by a potentially large number of contributors. For example, the software for the website Wikipedia is based on a content management system. The content managed includes computer files, image media, audio files, electronic documents and web content. The idea behind a CMS is to make these files available inter-office, as well as over the web. A Content Management System would most often be used as archival as well. Many companies use a CMS to store files in a non-proprietary form. Companies use a CMS to share files with ease, as most systems use server based software, even further broadening file availability. As shown below, many Content Management Systems include a feature for Web Content, and some have a feature for a "workflow process." "Work flow" is the idea of moving an electronic document along for either approval, or for adding content. Some Content Management Systems will easily facilitate this process with email notification, and automated routing. This is ideally a collaborative creation of documents. A CMS facilitates the organisation, control, and publication of a large body of documents and other content, such as images and multimedia resources. Can I modify the site myself? |
Absolutely! Your site can be built on a popular CMS (content management system) such as Joomla, which allows the site owner total control over the content, colour scheme, menus, users - the lot. Once the installation has been done and selected modules installed and configured for your site, you will then get a driving lesson and the keys! Basic information sites that do not require user regestrations and other functionality can be written in programs such as Dreamweaver or Frontpage and then published. If you have the software, you can maintain the site yourself. |

Can I have multiple languages? |
Yes, it is possible to install translators on your site. Depending upon what you use to build you site, you may be able to install ready-made translators. Some come with a handful of common languages built in and are easy to install, and others are configured on a one-off basis for each language required. |

What is a Community Site? |
A Community site is one where many members or visitors can contribute and/or manage the site. Take a 4WD club as an example. This site has a gallery to which registered members can add their own photos, a calendar to which they can add events, designated authors can contribute articles and reports directly to the site, and visitors and members can post to a public forum or guestbook. User profiles can be tailored to collect whatever information the club would like to collect whilst keeping information private or public as appropriate. |

Yesterday all servers in the U.S. went out on strike in a bid to get more RAM and better CPUs. A spokes person said that the need for better RAM was due to some fool increasing the front-side bus speed. In future, busses will be told to slow down in residential motherboards. |
